1. Haiti Trip: Across the country

Hello everyone,

Since I had written several articles in a short time, I wanted to delay my next blog so that everyone could read the different facets of a missionary with the PAOC. Which is important to get to know us better.

Today, I will take you on an adventure with me to Haiti, to have you discover different Evangelical Christian organizations. We are His servants, His streams of water that He makes flow in the desert to bring to drink those who are thirsty and to pour out His freshness to His creature so that they can discover that He is the great I am.

You can see below the places we visited in Haiti. We traveled almost 1000 km. In Haiti, 200 km takes 5 hours due to roads and traffic. The first area we visited are the Cayes. On the map below, it’s completely to the south of the country. We visited 4 Evangelical Christian organizations. Two caught our attention because of our call to missions, the first of which I will talk to you today.

This is an orphanage that started with a Haitian Christian evangelical woman who found an abandoned baby in the street, and she asked her husband to keep it. He hesitates and said to his wife that this is not desirable for now, they were a young couple having just married. She asks him what do you do with the child? He told her to bring it to the hospital because he looked sick. The child stayed for a while in the hospital and during this time this woman came to visit him. When the child was better, the husband seeing in his wife’s eyes the sadness of parting with the child, he told her that she could keep it.

Then comes another street child, then another and another, and then … their home becomes an orphanage that later becomes an organization with more than 200 orphans. The center has a school, a small library and houses for children with guardian families. These small houses are round metallic and form a small community.

Little houses, there are several and they form a pretty community. These houses are formed with sheet metal with a beautiful landscape painted wall, it is very pretty. They are round which protects them from being destroyed during hurricanes.

What interests us is that the next step of this organization goes in the same direction as our mission. They had the same direction of the Lord with regard to teaching Haitians to be able to do things of their ten fingers, to discover their potential and to know about the trades that interest them and that would be useful to develop the economy in their region in order to become autonomous. The founder of the orphanage reveals that he does not want to do as most of the orphanages in Haiti, to put his children onto the streets at 18 years having no knowledge to work to have an independent life. We see that we are walking in the same direction. Schooling children until high school with French and math is good, but it is not enough to make them citizens who will learn to work and develop their economy. Haiti is full of schools but when leaving high school, most are not rich enough to go to university. This has been going on for decades and stays the same. For me, the description of foolishness is to always do things the same way and expect a different result.

So, here is an organisation that is moving in the same direction as the Lord has shown us. They are blessed to see the vision of our mission and are ready to receive us at their orphanage to start to help young people be trained and to let the Lord open the door of economic blessing for their lives to glorify His name. These young people are encouraged during their education to recognize the lordship of Christ in their live which will bring them hope and plans for happiness and not misfortune as says the Word (Jeremiah 29.11). I must say that in Haiti their hearts are open to the gospel, suffering often brings us closer to God.

Whatever the case may be at this orphanage or elsewhere in Haiti, we will definitely return to work with them and help them in the way that the Lord will show us. Amen

I’ll get back to you later with the story of the other places where doors were also opened for us in April.
May the Lord make you know each day fully His will for your lives.

Thank you for all those who support us and make More For Haiti possible for the advancement of his Kingdom.

Marie-Jo
